PREMIUM ORGANIC CANADIAN SPHAGNUM PEAT MOSS MIXTURE

Looking for the best all-purpose soil amendment and mix base for your naturalistic vivarium/terrarium project? Then try our premium organic sphagnum peat moss. Are your soils lacking organic matter? Try adding our premium sphagnum peat mixture, nature’s best all-purpose soil conditioner. It adds needed structure and water-holding ability for poor-quality clay or sandy soils, giving plant roots a better growing environment.

WHAT MAKES OUR SPHAGNUM PEAT MOSS MIXTURE SO GOOD?

  • 100% natural and contains no toxins, additives or preservatives. (Reptile and amphibian safe)
  • The unique cell structure of peat moss is beneficial for plant roots and micro-organisms (micro-fauna).
  • Water saving - Peat moss retains as much as 20 times its weight in water and releases water slowly as the plants need it.
  • Aerating - Soils amended with peat moss have more air pockets for better root growth..
  • As an added benefit, the mixture also helps maintain humidity, which is important for your tropical reptile/amphibian inhabitants.
  • Peat moss protects soil from compacting, drying and hardening. Great for burrowing reptiles or egg laying.
  • Peat moss has a high CEC (cation exchange capacity), which means it holds and releases available nutrients better.
  • Long-Lasting - Peat moss resists decomposition.
  • Acidifying - Peat has a naturally lower pH, which is great for acid-loving plants. Can be mixed in with other media to lower overall PH slightly. Peat moss naturally maintains an acid pH of 3.5-4.5.

*Please avoid using city water straight from the tap when preparing your substrate mixtures and watering your plants. Most municipalities don’t soften water in a central location before providing it to your home. City water also contains additives like chlorine and fluoride commonly used by your local municipal treatment plant to make our drinking water safe and to keep your teeth healthy. While they make it safe for humans to drink, these additives will destroy the biological diversity of organisms that play an important role in root health and plant growth. It is best to use rain water, well water, or filtered R.O. water. If those options are not available, you can use a water dechlorinator/conditioner such as "Tetra Aquasafe" or a similar product.
