Topics in Soil Science (Pedology)

Pedology also known as "Soil Science" is the study of soils, and their chemical and physical properties as they are in their natural environment. Pedology is one of the two branches of soil science, the second being edaphology. Pedology also encompasses the study of the microbiology in the soil and its physics. Pedologists often work side by side with edaphologists1 and botanists2 to assess soil conditions for optimal growing conditions.

1Edaphology involves the study of how soil affects the way human nature uses the land for growing plants.
2Botany, also called plant science(s), plant biology or phytology, is the science of plant life and a branch of biology.
